Research Interests

Poverty and vulnerability in Uganda will continue to define the main focus of my research work. Though recent statistics (Uganda Poverty Report) indicate a decline in poverty levels from an estimated 34% in 2000 to 31.1% in 2006, the picture is different across the country; northern Uganda for instance has the highest incidence of poverty (60.7%) compared to 31.1% at national level. In addition it is also estimated that over 20% of the Ugandan population is living in chronic poverty. Generally vulnerability is high due to a multitude of inter-related factors; a high disconnect between policies and programmes and the needs of the poor, relatedly there is a continued mismatch between anti poverty policy and practice; high school drop outs despite existent universal education policies, lack of a national social protection framework, decline in economic growth, long term conflict, widening inequality, corruption and a politically driven human rights abuse among others.

My overriding objective is to bridge the gap between research and policy; use research to influence policy inclusion of the poor and vulnerable groups in Uganda so as to improve human welfare and to meet human needs for education, health, housing and social security especially for the poor and vulnerable people including children among others.

Strength

I’m a good team worker and player, confident, self motivated, passion for my country and specifically the poor and vulnerable children. I also desire to build my career and I have a willingness to take on unique challenging tasks.

My personal attributes include honesty, self drive, and eagerness to continually acquire new knowledge
